Hero & Heroine
Parker Callahan: Lead guitar player in a band. He has loved Nova since she first walked into their apartment. He also is a year older than her. Typical ladies man. In high school he hooked up with many girls to avoid the temptation of Nova. Music has been his main passion and focus. He wants to prove his mother wrong as she believes he won’t make it.
Nova Hearst: An artist, songwriter and travel writer. She is an influencer on Instagram with over a million followers. Her father was an aspiring musician, who put his career before her. She prefers to be anonymous on social media and in the public eye. She never posts pictures with her face. She can sing as well. Tequila is her drink of choice. She loves hiking and travelling in a van.
Nova and Parker are step-siblings. Her mom married his dad and they live in New York.
The book starts off with Nova in the hospital and her step-brother Parker is there with her. He has been offered to go on tour and Nova pushes him to go without her. He promises to keep in contact with her and that he will be back for her homecoming. However, he never did show up or call her. Nova lost all trust for him even though she loved him. And she later on disappeared so he wouldn’t find her. She deleted all her social media accounts and became invisible.
5 years later:
Nova gets drunk off Tequila and her friend goes to Instagram live on her phone with Parker Callahan. Now it’s been years since they last spoke. Nova quickly ends the live and Parker DM’s her asking for her number or else he is going to find and ask her friend for it.
Parker is a famous rockstar now. He is seen with a model turned actress Sonia as a PR stunt to increase his sales and publicity for his band.
Anyways, they start talking again on the phone and never actually meet in person. Until New Year’s Eve, where Nova decides to surprise Parker. When the clock strikes midnight and everyones getting that New Years kiss, Nova had this whole plan to see him until Sonia comes in and kisses him right in front of Nova. She runs away and ignores his calls.
Later on Nova is hired to be a music writer for a band. And guess which band that is? Yep, Parker’s. She signs the contract to go on tour with them and helps the boys make new music for their upcoming album.
Parker and Nova try to start fresh and leave the past in the past. Their love for each other never really died and they try to get to know each other again.
Nova still doesn’t want to be in the public eye which is why she refuses to be seen with Parker and the band.
Until Parker is required to go to an art exhibit with Sonia for a PR stunt. Parker has no choice and Nova pushes him to do it. However, Parker ends the contract with Sonia and finally gets with Nova.
Note: this is kinda a slow burn romance. They didn’t fully get together until halfway through the book.
Nova tries to be with Parker publicly. They go on private dates together without the paparazzi getting a photo of her face.
Also, there is a M/F/M scene in the book. Nothing too graphic.
Now the big reveal on why Nova doesn’t want her face on the internet. In the past, Nova had a stalker. She used to sing with the band at their gigs and gained recognition. The stalker was a notorious serial killer and kidnapped Nova one night at their gig without Parker noticing. Parker promised Nova he would wait for her outside the bathroom, however, he didn’t because he was swept up in his career. Nova was taken and left in the basement without any food or water until the FBI found her.
The press found out about Nova had her kidnapping and it created a PR nightmare. Her anonymity was gone. Parker didn’t know how to help her, so Nova left.
Nova realizes her mistake in running and wants Parker back. She accepts that her identity is no longer private and posts on her Instagram her face for the first time ever.
She goes and surprises Parker at the Grammy’s waiting for him and they walk the carpet together.
In the epilogue they get married in Vegas and HEA.
I loved this book. I love Tequila. I love Instagram. I love hiking. I love rock bands. When you put a bunch of things that I love into a book, I am 100% guaranteed to love the book. The flow of the story was effortless. I genuinely feel that Nova and her friend group are the best. Like I loved them. I’m all for friendship and tits before dicks. Lol.
I didn’t mind the jumping of timelines because Fiona didn’t do it that often and I liked reading about their past together.
I can’t wait for the next book! Highly recommend.
